Should torture be an acceptable method of gaining military intelligence?

Simple answer – put yourself in the situation: you are held captive and unable to fend for yourself whether due to physical restraint, drugs or both impeding/impairing normal bodily function and the captors are taking as long as they want with strains of entreaty, desperation, aggression, insight & intuition all probing for answers that determine how you will be treated and which at any rate [unless you are trained to handle the situation] is totally messing your brain up and causing the loss of your faculties to an embarassing extent which further intensifies the element of torture regardless of how well you answer the questions put to you…,

In the circumstances nobody would say it is acceptable.
