Is the death penalty a reasonable way to punish criminals for their actions?

Has there ever been a closed case with a death sentence challenged by the defendant who is then given the means to state a case for their continuing life – what they think is reasonable – has a compromise ever been reached.

Like – the sentence is lifted on the condition the defendant is permanently incarcerated and works within a certain capacity – at least a responsible role and as the only chance to prove they can live a life without commiting another crime – they have no second chance and any further infraction is them ultimately sentencing themselves.

I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!
