Robbing Peter to pay Paul

If this refers to the saints Peter & Paul & it is as if to say Saint Paul is representative of the “here & now” person while Saint Peter is the “ultimate moment” person (think Pearly Gates); so robbing Peter is taking from the end of life to equip the present – then this reference perfectly fits the use of controlled substances as recreational drugs…..

  Any individual can see that this point of view may just as easily impact non-users or those not said to be ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’, coincidentally – as a consequence of others’ actions, and so in earnest people begin to express the need to have any outcome pre-empted for their assurance, safety and well-being through time.

 

Can anyone verify the use of the phrase – what is it’s first known context?
